Tim graduated from Gardiner High School in 1965 and was looking forward
to attending his 50th class reunion. After graduating from high school Tim attended the University of New Haven Connecticut. After returning to Maine married Shirley Coffin Smith. They resided in Saco where they raised their two children, Stan and Scott Smith. Tim coached his boys in Little League and took them to hike all the 4000 foot high mountains in Maine and several of the mountains in New Hampshire. Tim was an avid NCAA basketball fan and enjoyed sharing his love of basketball with his family by traveling with them to
many tournaments and enjoying season tickets at Boston College and Seton Hall. This ensured that the family would be able to secure tournament tickets, during this time they were able to see Michael Jordan play.
In addition to his love of hiking and basketball, Tim loved nonfiction books, amassing an extension collection of history and genealogical books. He completed his degree in 2000, graduating with a BA in history and an Associate’s in Library Sciences. He used his knowledge and love of nonfiction to author “Togus, Down in Maine, The First National Veterans Home.” Tim also volunteered at the Dyer Library where he was a former trustee and on the Board of Directors, he also loved cataloging books for their annual book sale. Tim was a member of several Maine and New England historical societies, a member of the Saco Masonic Lodge No 9 as well as a member of the New England Teamster’s.
Tim worked many years as a transport driver for Interstate Breads, Hannaford and Shaws Supermarkets. During his retirement he and his wife
Shirley, enjoyed many trips throughout the United States and Canada. During their trips they indulged their love of music by attending many musical festivals. They travelled along Route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica stopping every night at a different musical venue. Tim and Shirley also enjoyed wintering in South Beach Florida.
Tim is predeceased by his parents and his daughter, Tara Brown.
