Family and Friends may call at the Dennett, Craig & Pate funeral home 365 Main St Saco on Thursday from 10 to 11AM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00AM at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Dunstan Cemetery in Scarborough.

Scarborough, Shirley Scamman, 85, formerly of Beech Ridge Rd, passed away Saturday April 7, 2012 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by her family. Most recently lived with her daughter Nancy in Buxton. She was born in Saco, August 2, 1927 the daughter of Harry and Irene Verrill Townsend.

She grew up in Saco and graduated from Thornton Academy.

After World War 2, she married her sweetheart James Harold Scamman on December 15, 1946 at the First Parish Congregational Church in Saco.

Shirley was a long time resident of Scarborough. She attended the West Scarborough United Methodist Church and was a member of the Nonesuch Temple #50 Pythian Sisters.

She and her husband were also members of the Couples Club, enjoyed square dancing and summers at their camp on Peabody Pond in Sebago.

Shirley enjoyed Tuesday coffee with lifelong friends Arleen Pemberton and others for over 50 years. She was also known for her admired gardens, which her granddaughter Melissa transplanted back to her home. Holidays were special to her as she got to spend time with her all of her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her husband James in August of 2011.

Survivors include a son David Scamman and his wife Susan of Standish, a daughter Nancy Gower and her husband Albert of Buxton, 4 grandchildren Josh, Luke, Jamie and Melissa and 8 great grandchildren.
