Obituary:
Alice “Eleanor” Hunter passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 with her daughter, Janet, by her side. In the last days of her life she was able to say “goodbye” and “I love you” to those closest to her, leaving no stone unturned.
Eleanor was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up just outside of the city in Cambridge. She spent her summers at her family’s cottage on the southern Maine coast.
She had attended The Buckingham School and went on to Boston University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music. She loved music with every ounce of her being. She was a pianist and singer and often shared her gifts with her family and friends. She always said “music is food for the soul”.
She enjoyed musical theater and attended shows at the Ogunquit Playhouse many times throughout her life. She believed that music education was important for children and had often donated scholarship funds to the Ogunquit Playhouse Arts Academy children’s theater, allowing the opportunity for a child to attend a session each summer.
She was an avid writer who wrote many stories, poetry and music. She loved home design and would often sketch her ideas down on the closest pad of paper. She was so creative and was always happy to share her ideas. She enjoyed good conversation, loved deeply and believed in living life one day at a time.
Eleanor is survived by her brother, Dick and his wife, Liz of Jaffery, NH; her daughter Susan and her husband, Jon of Warwickshire, England; her daughter Janet of Windham, NH; 3 grandchildren, Thomas, Samantha & Matthew; as well as so many loving family and friends.
