Obituary:
SCARBOROUGH – Rachel J. Ouellette, passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME on June 28, 2023, surrounded by loving family.
Rachel was born on March 14, 1933 in Hamlin, Maine, to Remie and Alma (Ringuette) Cyr. She graduated from Van Buren Girls High School in the Class of 1950 and married Norman D. Ouellette in 1953. Rachel worked for Dr. Philip Plourde, optometrist, once her children became independent. She enjoyed summer months at their camp on Long Lake and snowmobiling during the winter months; bowling; playing Skip-Bo and Aggravation with the grandkids. Rachel was a member of the Van Buren Business and Professional Women’s Club and Lioness Club. Norman and Rachel sold their potato farm in Cyr Plantation, where they raised their family, and moved to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1976. While in Florida, they enjoyed getting together every weekend to play cards with friends; they also enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson, MO.
Rachel was blessed to belong to a large, close family. She is survived by her son Wayne (wife Pam) of Jensen Beach, FL, daughter Bev (husband George) of South Portland, ME, and daughter Myra (husband Ken) of Grand Lake Stream, ME; grandchildren Ryan (wife Kim), Devin (wife Julie), Casey, Corey, Gina, and Ben (wife Alyssa); great-grandchildren Cora, Owen, Norman, and Rose; siblings Clarence and Richard Cyr of Van Buren, ME; Irma Martin (husband Bert) of Southington, CT; and Lillian Landry (husband Reno) of Lady Lake, FL, and many nieces and nephews.
Rachel is predeceased by her husband, Norman, who passed away in 2003, daughter, Rhonda, who passed away in 2004, sisters Gertrude Ouellette, Homerine Violette, Marie Mae Lajoie, and brothers Adrian, Chanel, and Raymond.
Interment and graveside service will be at the Grande-Riviere Cemetery in Van Buren, ME at a Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 3pm.
